About The Author
He’s behind you!
Nick Lawrence has been writing funny and original pantomime scripts for over a decade.
He licenses his scripts directly to amateur dramatics societies, community theatre groups, youth theatres, and schools, across the UK and internationally. There is no publisher, no agent, and no support team. Every enquiry, every Perusal Request and every Performance Licence is handled by Nick personally.
His ever-expanding pantomime script catalogue covers the classics, from Cinderella to Peter Pan, includes more up-and-coming titles like Rapunzel and Pinocchio, and has a whole lot in between! Productions using Nick's scripts have been nominated for and won awards with adjudicating bodies including NODA and the Association of Community Theatre (ACT UK).
Nick came up through amateur theatre himself. He has been onstage, in the band, backstage, and on the production team, which means he understands what a director actually needs from a script. That experience informs every scene he writes: the staging directions, the joke density, the pacing, the size of the chorus parts, and the balance between tradition and freshness.
“Nick made the process of ordering the script and personal contact a very easy and pleasant experience and that helped immensely.”
Nick says: "Pantomime is, for many people, their very first experience of live theatre, and that matters. The moment a five-year-old realises they're allowed to shout at the stage, or that the whole audience is booing together, or that they know something the characters don't, that's not a trivial thing. That's the beginning of a lifelong relationship with live performance. Amateur theatre is where that magic happens, and it should be celebrated loudly. Oh yes it should!
"What that means for the scripts is that they need to actually work. Not just on paper, but on a stage that might be a school hall, with an enthusiastic cast and a budget that doesn't stretch to flying rigs or professional costumes. The traditions matter: the dame, the slapstick, the songsheet, the ghost walk, the audience call-and-response. But respecting tradition doesn't mean reaching for the same tired tropes every year. Get those things right and it doesn't matter if your ghost is a person in a bed sheet. Everyone knows. That's rather the point."
“I would definitely consider using another one of your scripts and would recommend Nick Lawrence Pantomimes to other groups too.”
